The Cambridge University Basketball Club (CUBbC) has been promoting excellence in men’s and women’s sports for over 100 and 40 years respectively.

With our two men's and two women's teams, we represent the University in national and international competitions. Additionally, we run a College league for undergraduate and graduate students in Cambridge — attracting more than 250 players yearly. We also introduced a mixed 3x3 tournament in 2023 which was a resounding success and will be continued in future years. The club's reach also includes a vibrant network of alumni who stay engaged with events such as alumni dinners and traditional yearly alumni games between former and current players of the club.

Our primary goal is to maintain and develop a well-organised basketball community that allows students to compete at a high level while enjoying a social break from their studies. In achieving this goal, the Club faces annual costs of court hire, payment for referees, acquisition of new sports gear, playing kits, travel expenses, and more which total over £6,000 a year per team. Currently, our coaches generously donate their time for no payment.

In addition to funding from our generous donors and a Sports Centre grant, we rely heavily on individual contributions (currently up to £250 each per year) from our student members to be able to represent Cambridge University on the basketball court. Your support would allow us to make these financial burdens manageable and relieve pressure on our players while also giving club members more opportunities to promote basketball in Cambridge and beyond.

Donations are very gratefully received. Please note that the club can claim Gift Aid on donations from UK taxpayers via the University's fundraising campaign at no additional cost to the donor. Some examples of how your donations will be used are:

  • Game equipment — £50 gets us a new match-quality ball
  • Court hire — £65 covers a 2-hour training session for a team
  • Refereeing — £70 covers refereeing for one game
  • Transport — £100 sends one of our teams to an away match
  • Team Kits — £500 can provide a new kit for one team
