The University of Cambridge Development and Alumni Relations office are looking to recruit a team of energetic, friendly Cambridge students to act as Student Hosts at a prestigious event on Saturday 17 September. The event is to celebrate the close of the 'Dear World...Yours, Cambridge’ £2billion fundraising campaign for the University and the 31 Colleges, and will see our most generous donors return for a day of intellectual discovery and celebration. Our aim is that our donors leave with a sense of having been part of something special. We want to ensure they have positive interactions with our top academics and researchers, and a chance to hear from current students; the event should help them feel thanked and recognised for the impact their gifts have made. How you can help As a student host, you would be involved in the afternoon programme of the event, hosting a group of 6-8 guests. You will need to be relaxed but respectful and able to assess how much conversation your guests want throughout the day. Key duties will include: Welcoming your allocated guests and explaining the plans for the day. Introducing yourself: where you come from, your College, what you are studying, your experience of applying to and studying at Cambridge, your aspirations for the future. Asking your guests about themselves, where they come from, their link to Cambridge and their familiarity with the university and the city. Escorting your group to pre-arranged vehicles and accompanying them to the location of their afternoon activity. Joining your group on their chosen afternoon activities. These include tours and panel discussions. Helping your guests with practical arrangements - holding umbrellas, assisting with and carrying coats, directing to cloakrooms, answering queries. You will need to be available for: Two briefing sessions leading up to the event. These can be attended remotely and will last approx. 1 hour. Saturday 17 September from 11am - midday for a final briefing, and midday– 4.30pm for the event. In addition to the briefing sessions, you will be provided with detailed notes about the day and your group in advance of the event.
