About our research

Cambridge's extensive response to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) concentrates brilliant research minds on multiple aspects of the crisis: from mapping the virus’s genetic evolution as it spreads to advising industry on manufacturing-related challenges to advancing research rapidly to bring a possible vaccine to trial.

Our epidemiologists, pathologists, immunologists, mathematicians and veterinary scientists are providing crucial knowledge and skills, and communicating to assist public understanding. From those working in the laboratories of the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology & Infectious Disease, to those in the Department of Materials’ prototyping facilities, our scientists are focusing Cambridge expertise and innovation on the current crisis.

Reflecting the vast scale of the challenge, Cambridge is working together with academic colleagues across the globe, and with our partners at Cambridge University Hospitals and bodies such as Public Health England.

The breadth of Cambridge's research and expertise, combined with our close links to both the UK National Health Service and to industry, puts us in prime position to respond to the immediate tasks of understanding the virus and finding a vaccine, and to assess the long-term impact on society.
