Founded in 1904, the Cambridge University Expeditions Society (CUEX) is the oldest expeditions society in the world. In the footsteps of such alumni as Sir Peter Scott, Sir Vivian Fuchs and Sir David Attenborough, we exist to encourage and support students, staff and alumni to join, lead and organise expeditions around the world.

To foster ambition in a general sense, we are committed to hosting regular speaker events, networking events, social events and building an association with external bodies such as the Royal Geographical Society and Expedition Foods Ltd. For our potential expeditionary groups, we make every effort to guide them in the initial through to advanced stages of securing funding, planning logistics and ensuring safety before formal approval by the University.

CUEX is looking to build a network of current and future alumni, through which they can remain informed about the society’s activities, take advantage of current member benefits and provide support to our formative student members. If you are an alumni member of CUEX, please register with us by emailing cuexpeditions@gmail.com. We are particularly interested to hear if you have any specialist knowledge or skill in the planning or practice of expeditions!

CUEX operates on low reserves, relying almost entirely on membership fees to cover the reimbursements for our distinguished guest speakers. Any financial support owing to alumni donations will help the society to meet ongoing expenses and open the possibility of providing internal grants to students that are in hardship or unable to find good coverage despite appropriate fundraising efforts. We hope that providing certain means to reduce personal expense and the impact on academic performance due to term-time fundraising will hugely improve accessibility to the Society.

Help our members be inspired and equipped to embark on their journey! Thank you very much for your help.
