The G K Batchelor Lectureship provides for a one-week visit each year by an authority in some branch of fluid mechanics, usually from overseas, to present a keynote fluid mechanics seminar and to interact with members of the Department, particularly with graduate students, during the visit.
This Lectureship was initiated in 1995 by George himself, who made a substantial personal donation, and is now financed by the G K Batchelor Memorial Fund established in 2000, to which many have contributed. However, we need to raise a further £25k in order to secure in permanence the future of this Lectureship.
Cambridge owes its world-leading excellence in research and teaching to the generosity of its supporters. Our history is synonymous with a history of far-sighted benefaction, and the same is as true today as it has ever been.
