Following the success of the inaugural Cavendish Science Festival last June, the event returns in 2026 with a refreshed format and under a new name.

The Dolby Symposium is a one-day meeting focused on a single, unifying theme designed to foster engaging dialogue and provide fresh insights on the topic.

The theme for 2026 is “AI in Science”.

The programme of talks and panel discussions will explore how AI can be used across the sciences from computational biology, integrated into autonomous laboratories and the wider impact on society and policy.

We are pleased to announce that Dr John Jumper, Distinguished Scientist at Google DeepMind, will be a key speaker. Dr Jumper, awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Sir Demis Hassabis and Professor David Baker, is an artificial intelligence researcher and biophysicist, whose work on AI-based protein structure prediction has enabled the routine prediction of protein structures to atomic accuracy.

We are a 30-minute walk from the city centre, or 10 minutes by bike.

By bus: Routes 4, 8, U or X3, or the Madingley Park and Ride route.

By train: There are frequent trains from London King’s Cross and Liverpool Street to Cambridge. We’re about 3 miles from the station so you may want to take a taxi.

By car: From the South: Leave the M11 at junction 13. Turn right along the A1303. The Cavendish is on the right after a mile or so on JJ Thomson Avenue.

From the West: From the A428 from Bedford, take the A1303 as you approach Cambridge then turn into JJ Thomson Avenue.

From the North: From the A14, take the exit for Cambridge and you’ll enter along the Huntingdon Road. Turn right along Storey’s Way, then right when you reach Madingley Road onto JJ Thomson Avenue.

We are not able to offer parking facilities on site. We encourage you to use the Madingley Road Park and Ride site nearby. It has plenty of free parking, and there is a short walk of around 15 minutes to the Cavendish Laboratory.

By air: London Stansted is the closest airport to Cambridge, connected by regular train and bus services which typically take under an hour.
