Professor Clive Oppenheimer is Professor of Volcanology in the Department of Geography. Clive researches magmatic and volcanic processes, the long-range climatic and societal impacts of eruptions, and obsidian provenancing. He enjoys collaborations at the nexus between the natural sciences, arts and humanities, and made 'Into The Inferno' (Netflix, 2016) and 'Fireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds' (Apple TV+, 2020) with Werner Herzog.

Ayesha Siddiqi is the Associate Professor in Human Geography. Ayesha is a postcolonial geographer whose research examines how disaster risks are produced and lived on the margins of the postcolony.

Dr Max Van Wyk de Vries is Assistant Professor in Natural Hazards and Director of Cambridge Complex and Multihazard Research Group; a collaborative research group hosted by the departments of Geography and Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge. Max works broadly on multihazard, in particular on landslides, volcanoes, and cryospheric hazards; integrating remote sensing, numerical modelling, and fieldwork to understand the interactions between these multiple hazards.

Professor Marie Edmonds is Head of Department of Earth Sciences, holds a Chair in Volcanology and Petrology and Vice President and Ron Oxburgh Fellow in Earth Sciences at Queens’ College, Cambridge. She is part of the Cambridge Volcanology Group. Her research focuses on understanding the impact of volcanoes on our environment and on the habitability of our planet. Volcanoes are sources of pollutants and can impact our environment, society and economy in a range of ways. Volcanoes also provide us with nutrients critical for life, green sources of energy and sustainable resources. Edmonds’s research spans the boundaries between traditional disciplines, from deciphering the nature of the interior of the Earth, to magma transport and storage in the crust, to volcano monitoring, understanding ore deposits and the dynamic chemistry of volcanic gases in the atmosphere and climate.
