Japanese Studies
Japanese Studies has been taught at Cambridge since 1947 and over the decades has grown substantially from one professor teaching the language to now supporting six professors and two language instructors.
Currently situated within the Department of East Asian Studies in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, our cutting-edge research and teaching on and from Japan is one of the most vibrant educational and scholarly communities in the United Kingdom, in Europe, and indeed the world.
To ensure a continued strong presence of Japanese research and education at Cambridge we seek to establish philanthropic support in several key areas including:
- MPhil Scholarships
- PhD Scholarships
- Postdoctoral research posts and programmes
- Endowed Post in Japanese Visual Culture
- Establishing a Japan Global Research Centre
