The Botanic Garden protects rare and endangered plants; enables researchers to study how plants adapt, survive and flourish in changing environments; and welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
To sustain that role in the decades ahead, the Garden must be equipped for the changing climate. We have an urgent need to renew our irrigation system, much of which dates from the Victorian era. The system is increasingly unreliable, inefficient and unable to meet demand during the increasingly hot, dry summers, putting endangered plants and vital research at risk.
Renewing the ring main system and installing new storage tanks to harvest captured rainwater will ensure we can continue to care for the living collection.
