Research themes of the Department of Genetics include functional genomics and systems biology, developmental genetics, epigenetic inheritance, evolution and population genetics, microbial genetics, and cell biology.

The contemporary science of genetics has evolved beyond its traditional boundaries to become a fundamental part of biology and medicine; the Department uses quantitative approaches to understanding inheritance to apply genetic approaches to problems in biology to help identify solutions.
