As part of our 50th-anniversary celebrations, the Department is establishing the HPS 50th Anniversary Fund to offer financial support to postgraduate students, whose research will shape the future of our discipline.

Since its establishment in 1972 the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, the largest of its kind in the UK, has enjoyed a stellar international reputation for teaching and research. Offering exceptional support and resources and a wide array of subjects encompassing the history, philosophy, and sociology of the sciences and medicine, postgraduate students benefit from an environment characterised by numerous externally-funded research groups and an active schedule of research seminars and reading groups. The Department maintains close connections with other university institutions spanning various disciplines, including the medical, natural, and social sciences, as well as the arts and humanities.
