The Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart & Lung Research Institute is a collaboration between the University of Cambridge and the National Health Service with the mission to improve cardiovascular and lung health for everyone, no matter where they live.
Cardiovascular and lung diseases impact people of all ages across the world, regardless of socioeconomic status. The World Health Organisation has reported that more than 27 million deaths were caused by cardiovascular and lung disease in 2019 and together they are the leading causes of death worldwide. The COVID pandemic has further increased this mortality burden, and climate change, air pollution, and other factors will continue to increase this burden further.
The Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart & Lung Research Institute is patient-centred, collaborative, data-driven, and home to a highly-focused diverse community of scientists. Understanding cardiovascular and lung health from multiple viewpoints increases the likelihood that the preventative strategies, diagnostics, and therapeutic solutions developed will be effective and have global impact.
