Go Far! Cambridge Fundraising and Alumni Relations Internship Programme

A hands-on, professional experience for a career in higher education fundraising and alumni relations.

About the programme

The Cambridge Fundraising and Alumni Relations Internship Programme is a 9‑week immersive experience that has been designed to prepare you for a career in higher education fundraising and alumni relations.Over the course of the summer, you will learn about the fundraising and alumni relations profession, work on a project providing you with hands‑on professional experience, and network with leaders from across the collegiate community.

Internships are based either within the University Development and Alumni Relations Office or within a College Development Office, giving participants exposure to fundraising and alumni relations at both University‑wide and College level.

This is an exceptionally well-designed and valuable internship. It offered a real taste of professional life, deep insight into Development and Alumni Relations, and how universities work behind the scenes. The weekly learning sessions, showcase, and careers support were particularly valuable and made me feel genuinely invested in both during and after the programme.

    Projects

    • Gain hands-on experience through a real-world project, bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application.
    • Present your work at the end-of-programme Project Showcase, attended by senior leaders and colleagues from Collegiate Cambridge.
    • Previous projects have explored women's philanthropic giving at Pembroke College, the potential for a ‘grateful patient’ programme at Cambridge University Hospital and the launch of the Alumni Instagram Account.

I would 100% recommend the programme. The content is engaging, the individual project offers excellent work experience, and the organisation is outstanding. It’s a rare and niche internship that really helps you stand out in the job market, especially if you’re interested in development.
