Dorset - “Hosting Ukrainian Refugees” by Rev Dr Helen Williams
Dorset - “Hosting Ukrainian Refugees” by Rev Dr Helen Williams
Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society of Dorset for a talk by Rev Dr Helen Williams. Helen read physics at Somerville, Oxford, but had the good grace to transfer to Clare in 1986 where she spent 3 years earning her PhD. She then returned to work in the Department of Physics at Oxford before taking a career break. She studied for a PGCE at the Open University and taught physics in school before changing career again and being ordained into the Church of England in 2022. She is currently assistant curate at the Priory Church of Lady St Mary, Wareham.
Helen welcomed a Ukrainian refugee family into her home earlier this year and will be talking about the pleasures, the challenges and the problems faced by her and the family in integrating into her home and the local community. Christmastide and the New Year are as much about thinking of others as ourselves and we feel that this subject is not only highly topical because of the Ukraine crisis but also particularly relevant at this time of year.
