Virtual Climbing Challenge
As part of the Mental Health Awareness Week, the University Sports Service is inviting individuals, Teams, Clubs, Departments, and Colleges to join them in completing a Virtual Climbing Challenge to raise money for the purchase of essential high-quality PPE for NHS workers.
Being active is not only great for your physical health but can also improve your mental wellbeing by raising your self-esteem and helping you to set goals or challenges and achieve them.
So as part of the Mental Health Awareness Week, the University Sports Service is inviting individuals, Teams, Clubs, Departments, and Colleges to join them in completing a Virtual Climbing Challenge. Funds raised will go towards the University's COVID-19 PPE Appeal Fund, which is helping to purchase and transport Personal Protection Equipment from China to Cambridge.
There are a range of different individual, family, and group challenges that you can take on from climbing the University Library Tower to scaling a mountain! You can do them in a day or across a week depending on the time you have available and your current fitness levels.
To find out how to participate visit: www.sport.cam.ac.uk/vcc or support the challenge by making a donation below.
COVID-19 PPE Appeal Fund
The University of Cambridge has strong links and academic collaborations with China, and particularly Nanjing, such as Engineering Professor Daping Chu. In collaboration with Professors Sadaf Farooqi and Toni Vidal Puig (Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science), our engineers, biomedical scientists and clinicians are working with suppliers and manufacturers in the UK and China to ensure we access high-quality PPE.
The money raised by the fund will go towards purchasing:
- Goggles (reusable or single)
- FFP2 and FFP3 masks (reusable or single-use) with additional filters for reusable
- Water repellent single-use IIR standard surgical masks
- Surgical gowns
£150 buys enough FFP3 respirator masks to care for one patient in Intensive Care for one day and £1,000 buys 100 pairs of scrubs. We are hoping that if individually we can raise/donate a small amount that collectively we can reach a sum that can make a difference to the fund.
