Hereford - Supper and Evening Talk “Formula 1 Innovations”
Hereford - Supper and Evening Talk “Formula 1 Innovations”
Peter Wright, former technical director of Team Lotus, will talk about “Formula 1 Innovations”. Before his talk there will be a light buffet supper.
The event is being held jointly with the Oxford University Society of Herefordshire, Brecon and Radnor.
Peter Wright was educated at Wellington School then Trinity College, Cambridge, where he read engineering. He graduated in 1967 and was recruited by Tony Rudd who was then technical director of British Racing Motors. He stayed with Rudd for some years, learning about the design and manufacture of racing car bodies, aerodynamics and composite materials. They both moved to join Team Lotus and in 1978 designed the first ground-effect car. The following year, Lotus dominated Formula 1. Peter stayed with Lotus, becoming its technical director, but left in 1994 when it was running out of money. He then became a consultant to the Governing Body of FIA (The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) which governs racing world-wide. This left him time to indulge his other passions of gliding and technical journalism, explaining racing to fans all round the world.
