The Berkshire Cambridge Society invites alumni and their guests to join them for a weekend away at the Isle of Wight.

Program
 - [Sun am] A visit to Dimbola Museum and Galleries, home of the renowned Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. This too is close by, but will need booking in advance. We may be able to arrange for a talk.
 - [Sun pm] A walk to encompass Alum Bay, the Needles and Tennyson Down, more or less on our doorstep.

 - [Mon] A visit to Queen Victoria’s Osborne House – at leisure this will probably occupy most of the day and will also need booking in advance.
 - Do your own thing, e.g. ride on the steam train in the NE of the island, visit Ventnor, relax and do nothing.

Accommodation
The house is located at Freshwater Bay on the west of the island, overlooking the sea.

Fine cuisine: continental/cooked breakfast, packed lunch, 3-course dinner, and coffee. A bar, three lounges, and gardens. An outdoor swimming pool, which is expected to be open. A selection of laminated walking guides.

Rooms are decorated to a high standard but note that three of the singles are in the adjacent GateHouse and not ensuite. ‘Better/best’ rooms are either larger or have a desirable view, larger television, enhanced toiletries etc. If you book one of these, be prepared to accept the ‘good’ option as the second choice. Of course, there’s more chance of getting the first choice if you book early.

Travel
HF offer a reduced-price ferry and transfer ticket at £29 return (£15 for children). This gives you a foot-passenger ticket for the Wightlink Lymington to Yarmouth ferry plus a connecting taxi/coach transfer to Freshwater Bay. Transfers connect with the 15.00 or 16.00 ferries from Lymington. On departure day the transfer will get you back to Yarmouth in time to catch the 08.45 or 10.05 ferries to the mainland. Tickets should be booked independently at least 14 days in advance by calling the reservations team on 020 8732 1220.

If these times are not convenient, there is also a regular bus that will take you from the ferry terminal and stop at the house.

You can pre-book a taxi from HF’s recommended taxi company, Alpha Cars. In 2019 it cost £20 per 4-seat taxi. If you are interested in sharing such a taxi with another couple, let me
know.
Alternatively, you may want the freedom of your own car. Please indicate on the form. If you are willing to take passengers and there are enough cars for the group not to need to hire a coach/minibus for Osborne House, I will give a £20 reduction.
