Cambridge University Badminton Club is one of the oldest university sports clubs in Cambridge, with the first Varsity Match held in 1928. Since then, the club has grown and matured.

CUBaC is both a friendly and competitive club. We field two teams in the BUCS league and three teams in the local South Cambs league, in addition to the all-important Varsity Match. In recent years, the club has expanded, attempting to match the tremendous enthusiasm for badminton in the wider University — in 2017 we introduced a Development Squad, and in 2020 we hope to offer a casual session open to all University members. The Main Squad is training more than ever with the introduction of new 7am sessions and a strength & conditioning session, all with qualified coaches.

We also run a popular calendar of socials including Christmas Dinner, Varsity Dinner and the 'Old Boys' Alumni Match & Dinner. The 'Old Boys' event is a great chance to meet old friends and play some quality badminton — if you're an alumnus/a and haven't heard from us in a while, visit cubac.org/alumni to ensure you receive next year's invite!

The club relies on annual subscriptions of £215 from Main Squad members to fund our court fees, shuttles, and transport to matches. Unlike many Cambridge sports clubs, CUBaC is highly diverse, with many of our skilled players hailing from international and state-school backgrounds. We fear that this high fee discourages many freshers who face this decision within their first two weeks at the University.

Your donation will initially contribute towards a 'hardship fund' to subsidise the subscription fee for Main Squad members in receipt of the Cambridge Bursary, or who can otherwise demonstrate financial hardship. Once this goal is achieved, your donations will support the general running of the club, enabling us to offer more coaching, more competitive opportunities and expand the club, without raising our fees. We will keep you up-to-date with the progress of our fundraising in our termly alumni emails.

Please note that the club is able to claim Gift Aid on donations from UK taxpayers giving via the University's fundraising campaign, at no additional cost to the donor. We can accept one-off and recurring donations via direct debit.
