Through this distinctive and foundational element of the MMLL tripos, Cambridge students encounter differences — of thought, communication, culture and expression — that transform them, personally and intellectually. They also encounter themselves in new ways.
The Year Abroad challenges their assumptions about the world, broadens the horizons of their ambitions, and sharpens plans for the future. Yet, this valuable experience is under increasing pressure from changes in the geopolitical landscape and uncertainty in funding, which in turn impacts students and our widening participation goals.
Our ambition is that the fullest Year Abroad experience is available to all future generations of Cambridge students, regardless of their backgrounds and financial circumstances.
