The Digital Fabrication Studio provides access for architecture students to state-of-the-art 3D printing machinery, allowing undergraduate and postgraduate students to produce rapid prototypes and laser-cut parts for architectural models.

The workshop is equipped with woodworking tools – including saws, planers, drills and sanders – and a CNC router to allow students to fabricate models from wood and other materials. In addition, a computer studio provides 20 machines loaded with all the essential software for CAD and 3D rendering.

The architecture and design sector is increasingly making use of digital technologies. By providing industry-quality tools, we are educating and preparing our students for the future of the industry. To remain competitive, we need to maintain our current Digital Fabrication Laboratory and continue to equip it with state-of-the-art machinery.

Our facilities provide 200 architecture students with spaces to explore these new technologies. They give students the opportunity to push the boundaries of the field and to extend their own abilities in exciting new directions. With new and well-maintained equipment, our students will not only gain experience but amplify the level of their work they do to an industry-recognised quality.

  • Overall equipment cost — £70,000
  • Annual maintenance — £8,500 per year
