Sailing and windsurfing (CUCrC)
Founded in 1893, Cambridge University Cruising Club is the home of all dinghy, windsurfing and small boat sailing at the University. ‘Big boat’ sailing is the province of the separate CU Yacht Club.
The Club caters for complete novices to National Youth Squad members. We run RYA Training courses and enter successful teams (4 mixed, 1 ladies) for week-end university and open events across the country. Training and other activities take place at Grafham Water SC.
Sailing is inevitably an expensive sport because neither the Colleges nor the University provides facilities for it. The Club replaces its Firefly dinghies when they are 6 years old — at a capital cost of £50,000 each time. The Club also aims to pay part of the entry fees student sailors incur when representing the University in events. Sailors spend from £1,500 (1st team) to £1,000 (3rd/4th teams) on their Cambridge sailing each year.
We are seeking additional alumni support to help meet our ongoing expenses and replace our boats and gear regularly. Your help will ensure that CUCrC can remain financially sustainable and maintain its very successful record in university sailing. After your first payment is received the Club will ask for your wishes regarding the disposition of your gift.
