Supporting world-class research and teaching in data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

C2D3 brings together the very best researchers and expertise from across the academic departments and industry to drive research into the analysis, understanding and use of data science.

With unprecedented access to increasing volumes of data, our research ranges from the underlying fundamentals in mathematics and computer science to data science applications across all six University Schools of Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Technology. C2D3 connects over 300 researchers from over 90 University departments and institutes.

Our collective effort aims to address important issues around law, ethics and economics, in order to apply data science to solve challenging problems for society.

C2D3 encourages knowledge sharing and teaching across the University, and frequently supports events in data science. Recent events include Bayesian Hierarchical Modelling workshop; Data Science School in machine learning applications for the life sciences; Cambridge Network Science day; Machine learning for environmental sciences; Advances and challenges in machine learning programming of languages; Winter school on big data; Cambridge big data research symposium; and the Ethics of big data workshop.

What C2D3 does:

  • Supports and connects the growing data science research community
  • Builds research capacity in data science to tackle complex issues
  • Drives new research challenges through collaborative research projects
  • Promotes and provides opportunities for knowledge transfer
  • Identifies and provides training courses for students, academics, industry and the third sector
  • Acts as a gateway for external organisations
