Learning in the field is a transformative experience for students.

From studying gigantic ancient millipede tracks on Arran, to ancient reefs and volcanoes in Spain, fieldwork is an enriching undergraduate experience.

Our fieldwork programme is central to helping create strongly motivated, highly employable geoscientists. This includes undergraduate fieldtrips and independent mapping projects.

Your Gift Matters

You can ensure that all students can participate in fieldwork. A gift of any amount makes a real difference, enabling future generations to have the same outstanding opportunities as their predecessors. Gifts to this fund could help us to:

  • £50 pays for a student rail-fare for the second-year mapping course to Cumbria
  • £180 pays for a graduate student to demonstrate on the first-year field course to Arran
  • £260 covers accommodation and food costs for a student on the second-year field course to Dorset
  • £500 fully funds the field component of a fourth year’s research project
  • £750 pays for one third-year student to do a four-week mapping project in the UK
  • £1,300 covers the hire cost of two minibuses on the Greek field trip
