Land economy, as a subject, applies the disciplines of economics, law and planning for the analysis of the governance of land use, urban areas and interactions with other environmental resources. Examples include the role of governments in establishing regulatory frameworks within which land markets operate and the role of private organisations in owning, managing and developing assets within those markets.

The Department's activities in climate change mitigation research and sustainable urban policy would, in particular, benefit from new, endowed Professorships to provide additional academic leadership.
