As the importance and applications of mathematics in all aspects of life grows, there is an ever-greater demand for INI’s unique facilities. It has long been INI’s ambition to bring more researchers together in stimulating and cutting-edge research programmes. Philanthropic partners are instrumental in realising our goals to:

Foster the next generation

Early career researchers particularly benefit from a long term stay at INI. The residential nature of our programmes means that they can form meaningful professional relations with the established experts in their field while at the same time connect and work with their peers. We are raising money for special fellowships that will help launch careers.

Attract the brightest

World-class researchers are a tremendous asset for our programmes. Not only do they contribute at the highest level but also attract others to INI. INI Distinguished Visiting Fellowships honour and recognise this contribution and make extended stays possible.

Make space for mathematics

Mathematicians may not need big machinery but we do need space as provided by INI where researchers can gather in the stimulating environment created by the thematic programmes to discuss deep theories and methodologies, try new ideas collaboratively on the many blackboards, work intensively over weeks and even months to develop and fine-tune their work, undisturbed and undistracted, away from their usual obligations. In a sense, INI is the mathematical equivalent of a national lab.

We have ambitious plans for a state-of-the-art lecture theatre embedded in a new visitor centre that will increase our capacity by 50%. The extension will create much-needed space right next to INI while retaining the unique design and character of our treasured current building.
