Traumatic Brain Injury Research
Support research work in Cambridge and worldwide in Traumatic Brain Injury, resulting from accidents, falls or other trauma to the brain.
Professor Peter Hutchinson (Professor of Neurosurgery and Head of Academic Neurosurgery at the University of Cambridge, Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and director of the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Brain Injury) runs a research programme into traumatic brain injury, a very common condition which leads to one million patients per year attending hospital emergency departments in the UK. Traumatic brain injury results in acute and on-going physical, psychological and behavioural symptoms. Your donation will support the team’s work across the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, exploring brain injury, and specifically how we can better utilise monitoring technology to increase our understanding of the pathophysiology, and the investigation and treatment of concussion.
In Cambridge, we are utilising novel technology to monitor patients with brain injury and running clinical trials to determine the best treatment. Supporting this research will help the development of better means of assessing patients with brain injury, so in the future they so they can get the best help faster.
This fundraising campaign is supported by the Cambridge City Mayor. Our team, in partnership with the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Brain Injury, is raising awareness around Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and safety in Cambridge this year. Find out news about the Mayor's campaign.
